30 Mar MEDRC INVITE APPLICATIONS FOR OMANI YOUNG WATER RESEARCHERS AWARD, 2021

MEDRC is pleased to invite eligible participants to apply to this year’s Omani Young Water Researchers Award.  Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the award is designed to recognize young water researchers whose work contributes to advancing key areas of the water sector:

  • Water management
  • Wastewater treatment and reuse
  • Water treatment technologies
  • Non-revenue water
  • Desalination and / or related environmental research

This is the fifth year of the prestigious award first launched in 2017 to showcase the high level of water research being conducted in Oman by young researchers in the early stage of their careers.

To be eligible to compete, applicants must be Omani nationals, between 20-35 years of age.  Submitted applications will undergo two rounds of review. They are first screened for eligibility and compliance against the terms and conditions of the award, before being evaluated and scored by the Judging panel. The panel – formed of leading water experts from academic institutions and organizations in the public and private sectors – will call selected finalists to present their findings, and assess them on their ability to communicate and defend their research work.

“The Omani Young Water Researchers Award is a celebration of the academic excellence of the new generation of Omani scientists who use their talents to improve life and society by creating more sustainable, affordable and plentiful access to water. They are a credit to Oman and we salute them. Through the Eco School Prize we are working together to ensure that scientific and sustainable spirit is passed to the next generation.” Said Ciarán Ó Cuinn, MEDRC Center Director.

Winners will be announced in both undergraduate and postgraduate categories with a special prize going to the best Wastewater treatment and reuse project. A total of six winners, 2 from each category, will receive the winning prize of a trip to Dubai Expo 2020 (tentative).

The award is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Omar Zawawi Establishment L.L.C (OMZEST) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Oman with support from the Oman Water Society and Majis Industrial Services.
