MEDRC Supports Research to Evaluate Maintenance Strategy of Oman Desalination Plants

Ahmed Fadhil Said Al-Hinai a MEDRC PhD fellow has completed a research project at the Glasgow Caledonian University to evaluate the maintenance strategies of seawater desalination plants in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr. Al-Hinai examined Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Multistage Flash (MSF) seawater desalination plants considered in his study. A comprehensive Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) was conducted to identify the critical components/parts/functions and the causes that contribute significantly to equipment failures of both RO and MSF plants.

Desalination plant equipment was exposed to various failure causes that compete with each other to initiate system degradation. As a result of this research Dr. Al-Hinai has presented and proposed conditional independent multiple competing risk models.
