01 Oct MEDRC Announces Gaza Research Support Scholarships
15 Research Projects Supported at Islamic University of Gaza and Al Quds University Unique Collaboration with Palestinian Water Authority (PWA)
The Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) today announced details of the research projects in Gaza to be supported under the latest round of the MEDRC/PWA Water Research Scholarship Program. The 15 projects will help build research capacity and make a long-term contribution to the development of water management; desalination and water reuse activities in Gaza and the West Bank. This Program, which is jointly developed and operated in partnership with the Palestinian Water Authority, supports students in Gaza and the West bank an opportunity to carry out their research at local universities typically at MSc level. The research projects will be based at the Islamic University of Gaza and Al Quds University. The projects are about seeking solutions to some of the very real water issues facing the region. Commenting on this year’s projects, Ciarán Ó Cuinn, MEDRC Center Director said; ‘This program is about supporting exceptionally talented researchers find answers to some of the major strategic water issues facing Gaza today. Universities in Gaza have developed world-class expertise in water issues and the MEDRC is delighted to support their research. ‘This program would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of PWA staff in Gaza, it is important that their hard-work be recognized.’ The research topics being supported are: Epidemiological Study for Assessment of Pathogenic Hazards from Waste Water Reuse in Agriculture Challenges in Microbial Fuel Cell Development in Gaza Strip : Dynamic Modeling of a Realistic Technology for Sustainable Electricity Production and Efficient Waste Water Treatment Solar Households Unit for Water Desalination Performance Optimization of Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) Desalination Plants (Case Study Gaza Strip) Hydro Geophysical Investigation for the Delineation of Sea Water Intrusion into the Freshwater Aquifer of Southern Governorate, South of Gaza Strip Using Capacitive Deionization Technology for Saline Water Desalination The Potential Impact of Zonation on Improving Gray Water Quality for Irrigation Purposes Environmental Impacts of Brine Disposal to the Sea (Gaza Strip Case study) Using Concentrated-Solar Technology for Production of NaCl From Brine of Desalination Plants (Gaza Strip Case Study) Stacked Photosynthetic Microbial Desalination Cell (SPMDC) – Case Study Gaza Strip Comparative Study of Reverse Osmosis and Nano-filtration Membranes in Sea Water Desalination Technology in the Gaza Strip Hydraulic and Purification Behavior During Wastewater Treatment in Soil Infiltration Systems ( Case Study: Sheikh Ejleen Post Treatment Unit) Assessment and Modeling of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Contamination in Soil and Groundwater in the Middle Area of Gaza Strip Disinfection of Treated Waste Water Using Different Parts of Moringa Oleifera Extracts (Case study Alsheikh Eglen Waste Water Treatment Plant) Ultra Filtration of Treated Waste Water Using Nanoparticle of Metal Oxide/Coated Mesoporous Silica
