MEDRC has worked on projects linked to the WEFE Nexus since 2016, bringing expertise to roundtables and dialogues about how nexus thinking could be applied to the MENA region. The water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus is largely a theoretical approach that considers the interlinkages between water, energy, food and ecosystems and how actions in one sector influence and affect the other. Nexus projects center around the idea of mutual benefits. This intersection is increasingly an area of interest but one that often favors economic deals rather than conflict sensitive ones. MEDRC strives to balance technical expertise alongside political nuance by researching conflict transformative nexus thinking.
