08 May Agreement Signed Between Qatar Development Fund and MEDRC

Qatar to Support MEDRC Palestinian Water Projects

The Qatar Development Fund and the Middle East Desalination Research Center have signed an agreement that will see the Qatar Development Fund support important MEDRC projects in Palestine and Jordan. 

Among the activities to be supported by the Fund are;

  • Training of Palestinian and Jordanian water specialists.
  • MEDRC evaluation and support of small scale desalination and water treatment units in the Jordan Valley.
  • A desalination and water treatment maintenance program for desalination plants in Gaza.
  • Support for Palestinian and Jordanian water experts to receive highly specialized training at MEDRC’s HQ in Muscat, Oman.

On the occasion of today’s signing the Chairman of MEDRC, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi stated;

“Qatar is an extremely important MEDRC member, not least because of its world renowned commitment to research and innovation. Through MEDRC Oman and Qatar work together to find solutions to fresh water scarcity by supporting research and training in new desalination technologies. Today’s agreement will see Qatar support a series of development cooperation projects that will assist the Palestinian and Jordanian water sectors further develop their expertise it this vital area. This support will make a very real difference and I thank Qatar’s Development Fund for their generosity.” 

Signing today’s agreement H.E. Ali Bin Fahad Al-Hajri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Sultanate of Oman stated;

“We are pleased to provide this support which is a continuation of our previous contributions as we believe in the importance of the work of the Centre. The State of Qatar values its membership in MEDRC and thanks Oman for hosting the center. We are proud to work together with our other partners and are delighted to support these development cooperation activities in Palestine and Jordan. The Qatar Development Fund will assist officials, engineers and technicians further develop the capacity necessary to help overcome the challenges facing the region’s water sector.” 

Center Director of MEDRC H.E. Ciarán Ó Cuinn stated 

“Qatar is one of the world’s leading supporters for technical innovators in water and the interlinked area of food security. In that context we are honored at the initiative of Qatar to support MEDRCs Technical Water Sector Capacity Building Program.”

قطر تدعم مشاريع مركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية لفائدة قطاع المياه في فلسطين

وقع صندوق قطر للتنمية ومركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية اليوم اتفاقية سيقدم من خلالها صندوق قطر للتنمية دعما مهما لمشاريع مركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية في فلسطين والأردن

ومن بين الأنشطة التي سيشملها دعم صندوق قطر للتنمية:

*تدريب خبراء المياه الفلسطينيين والأردنيين

*جهود مركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية في تقييم ودعم الوحدات الصغيرة للتحلية ومعالجة المياه في وادي الأردن

* برنامج صيانة لتحلية المياه ومعالجتها في محطات التحلية في قطاع غزة

* تدريب عالي الجودة لخبراء المياه الفلسطينيين والأردنيين في مقر مركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية في مسقط

وبهذه المناسبة صرح معالي السيد بدر بن حمد بن حمود البوسعيدي رئيس المجلس التنفيذي لمركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية خلال حضوره مراسم التوقيع على الاتفاقية “بأن دولة قطر الشقيقة هي عضو مهم في المجلس التنفيذي للمركز ولها دور مشهود له دوليا في دعم مجالات البحث والابتكار وأن سلطنة عمان ودولة قطر تعملان معا داخل المركز لإيجاد حلول لأزمة شح المياه العذبة من خلال دعم الأبحاث والتدريب على تقنيات جديدة ومستدامة للتحلية”. وأضاف معاليه قائلا “بأن اتفاقية اليوم تركز على دعم عدد من المشاريع التي تساعد بشكل أوسع على تطوير قطاع المياه وبناء القدرات المتصلة بهذا المجال الحيوي في كل من فلسطين والمملكة الأردنية الهاشمية”. وأعرب معالي السيد رئيس المجلس التنفيذي للمركز عن الشكر والتقدير لصندوق قطر للتنمية على مساهمته السخية التي سيكون لها الأثر الفاعل في هذا الإطار” 

ومن جانبه أعرب سعادة علي بن فهد الهاجري سفير دولة قطر المعتمد لدى السلطنة عن سعادة دولة قطر بتقديم هذا الدعم الذي يمثل استمرارا لمساهمات سابقه، إيماناً منها بأهمية عمل المركز”، وقال سعادته “بأن دولة قطر تثمن عضويتها في المجلس التنفذي لمركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية، وتشكر سلطنة عمان على احتضانها للمركز وإننا فخورون بالعمل سوياً مع شركاؤنا الآخرون، ويسعدنا دعم أنشطة تنمية التعاون في كل من فلسطين والأردن وأن صندوق قطر للتنمية سيساعد على التغلب على التحديات التي تواجه قطاع المياه في المنطقة من خلال المساهمة في جهود بناء قدرات المسؤولين والمهندسين والفنيين في هذا القطاع”

وصرح مدير مركز الشرق الأوسط لأبحاث التحلية، المستر كيران أوكوين “بأن قطر هي من الدول الرائدة في العالم في دعم مجال الابتكار التقني في المياه والمجالات المرتبطة بالأمن الغذائي. وفي هذا السياق، نعبر عن سعادتنا واعتزازنا بمبادرة دولة قطر لدعم برنامج المركز لبناء القدرات الفنية في مجال المياه”
