Application Opens for Omani Young Water Researchers Award, 2019

MEDRC have announced the renewal of their partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Oman and Omar Zawawi Establishment LLC (OMZEST) to deliver The Young Omani Water Researchers Award in 2019. The award, which is now in its third year running acts as a platform to showcase high quality water research being conducted in country, while encouraging researchers to focus on water related topics that would be of benefit to Oman’s water sector.
Held under the auspices of the Public Authority for Electricity & Water (PAEW) of Oman, this award is designed to recognize young Omani researchers whose work has led to improvements in:
• Water management
• Water treatment technologies
• Desalination and / or related environmental research

MEDRC believes that supporting exceptional researchers in the early stages of their careers is a vital component of our work in research capacity building. “We hope that highlighting these achievements will also serve to encourage further water research particularly that which targets water challenges specific to Oman” commented Ms. Ayisha Al Hinaai, Research Assistant at MEDRC.

The winning prize is a trip to Amsterdam International Water Week which takes place in the Netherlands on the 4-8, November, 2019.
This year’s competition sees Haya Water come on board as sponsors with a trip to the international symposium on water and wastewater technologies in Jordan being awarded to the best wastewater research project.

“With this award we aim to showcase high quality research undertaken by talented researchers whose work has made a significant and valuable contribution to the water sector” says Dr. Jauad El Kharraz, Head of Research at MEDRC.

MEDRC has called for applications from young Omani Nationals between the ages of 20-35 to be made via their website www.medrc.org/apply. Closing date for applications is July 4, 2019.
