16 Apr First Batch of Trainees Graduate from BP Sponsored TAHLYA Training Programme

MEDRC Water Research’s capacity building training programme in desalination for young Omani Jobseekers saw the graduation of the first batch of 18 trainees on the 16th of April 2017. Sponsored by BP Oman, TAHLYA aims to equip graduates with skills to work as Operators and Supervisors in the fast-evolving desalination industry in Oman. The journey of the first batch included theory and practical training as well as placement in Seawater Reverse Osmosis plants for two weeks as observational interns, giving them valuable real world experience.

The second batch of trainees was introduced to the training programme as soon as the first batch graduated, enabling them to perceive and share the success of batch one as well as inspire them to attain similar endeavours.

“We are proud to witness the graduation of the first batch of trainees from the TAHLYA Training Programme, which has provided these young nationals with skills and knowledge, enabling them to play an important role in the desalination industry,” said Shabib Mohammed Al Mamari, Communications and External Affairs Manager at BP Oman.

Out of the 18 graduates, two are women. Sitting alongside their male student counterparts, Ahoud Al Hashmi and Shatha Al Rashdi overcame challenges related to the technical aspects of the training and focused on achieving integration with other trainees. “To succeed in such technical industries, what really matters is motivation and strong desire for work and success. Having faith in one’s capability and potential is of paramount importance, this is what enabled us to successfully complete the programme,” said Al Rashdi.

“I am very happy with how the trainees have approached this course. They have applied themselves in a dedicated, professional manner and have consistently displayed a genuine interest in what they are learning. I have every confidence that they can continue on in this industry and forge successful careers for themselves. We are working very hard to help them achieve that with the great support of BP Oman,” said Engineer Riadh Dridi, Head of Training, at MEDRC Water Research

Initiated in February 2017, the three courses will conclude in November 2017 with the grand total of 60 young Omanis trained in Reverse Osmosis Desalination technology.
