12 Nov 2nd MENARET Project Workshop held at MEDRC
October 28th – 30th, 2018: Led by TU Berlin the MENARET Project consists of a series of workshops to be held in Berlin, Muscat, Tunis & Tlemcen. The Project will deliver a conceptual framework for a collaborative R&D project on potential energy transition/transformation scenarios and energy systems in MENA region. MEDRC are working together with German SMEs, PAUWES, University of Tlemcen (Algeria) and INRGREF from Tunisia. The shared goal is the inter- and trans-disciplinary research on potential energy transition scenarios and energy systems in the MENA region, particularly with regard to their impact on socio-economic and civil-societal aspects, their integration with the European energy transition and the climate change in general. The consortium will prepare a proposal of a project to be implemented over 2-3 years before end of May 2019, and to be funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Participants at the Muscat based workshop also attended the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) EU-GCC Clean Energy executive workshop on energy efficiency along with a technical visit to a farm in Barka where a desalination system is used to irrigate crops. The workshop was attended by representatives from The Research Council of Oman (TRC), EJAAD platform, Oman Water Society and representative from the private sector as well.
